BIO
Lysanne is a Dutch stage director, working across opera and theatre. Whilst based in London, she works both in the UK and Europe.
Her work has been praised for its clear and truthful storytelling, allowing the material and performers to flourish. Her production of Maria de Rudenz with Gothic Opera was nominated for an Off West End Award in the Best Production (Opera) category and received ☆☆☆☆☆ from Opera Now.
Other recent productions include I Capuleti e I Montecchi - West Green House Opera (☆☆☆☆ - Mark Aspen) and La Canterina – Buxton International Festival (☆☆☆☆ The Stage).
Lysanne has a strong foundation in movement and performance. She trained at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and worked as a performer for several years with a particular interest in classical musicals, Shakespeare and greek tragedy.
In 2016, she assisted Jenny Miller at Longborough Festival Opera on Alcina, where she discovered her love of directing opera. Since then she has worked with companies across the UK and Europe including English Touring Opera, Köln Oper, Reisopera, Opera Zuid and Opera Holland Park where she was the 2024 Young Artist Director.
Lysanne has a keen interest in working with early career and emerging artists and supporting them to build a strong foundation as they move into the creative industries. As well as being the OHP Young Artist 2024 director, she has worked with The Royal College of Music, Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama where she has directed Opera Scenes and led workshops.
Alongside her directing work, she is as a qualified life and career coach, and works with a particular focus on helping artists at all stages of their career navigate the life of a creative.
